Listen: Yumi Zouma – “The Brae”
The best type of music for this time of year is something that sounds like a big hug; a warm musical embrace, wistfully weaving its way through your brain for the rest of the day. The latest single from New Zealand dream-popsters Yumi Zouma fits the bill perfectly.
Taken from their upcoming self-titled EP, out 11 February on Cascine, “The Brae” shimmers and floats in a beautifully lazy way. Delicately finger picked guitars glide alongside the simple bass line and tight drums before moving it up a gear slightly for the fun chorus.
It all feels very Broken Social Scene, with the overlapping guitars and Feist-esque vocals. Think “7/4 Shoreline” on a hazy Sunday morning. It’s wonderfully dreamy pop that’s just a joy to embrace.
