Listen: Kate Boy – The Way We Are
Since the release of Kate Boy’s critically acclaimed debut EP Northern Lights back in January, there has been an unsettling lack of musical output from the promising Australian-Swedish electro-pop quartet.
Thank goodness, then, that they’ve finally ended the wait and stormed back on to the scene with ‘The Way We Are’, a future-retro synth-driven pop sensation. Punchy, powerful, with a military rhythm reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s ‘They Don’t Really Care About Us’; the track has an instant appeal, solidified by a rousing arms aloft chorus.
Kate (Akhurst), the Australian singer-songwriter, and her Swedish band-mates are currently playing a series of European shows, and will be touring the US in June. The band make their UK debut at London’s Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen on 19 June.
