In a year that’s been dominated by forward thinking female newcomers, LA’s Banks has been consistently on the tip of many a tongue since the release of debut track ‘Before I Ever Met You’ – a ferocious pean to a relationship that’s simply too hard to let go of.
Hands down one of the most moreish pop songs of the year, ‘Before I Ever Met You’ was briskly followed by the equally impressive ‘Warm Water’ and ‘Fall Over’ – all of which quickly set Banks apart as a massively intriguing proposition, to which she spoke about in depth here.
Here, the songwriter returns with ‘Waiting Game’ – a subdued ballad with intense atmospherics provided by recent 4AD signing SOHN. The song purrs throughout with a deliciously sinister vibe and manages to showcase Banks’ tender vocal range to dramatic effect.
‘Waiting Game’ is the lead track lifted from Banks’ forthcoming EP, which is due for release later this summer.
