Alex Amor marks a new chapter with her sunny new single “dare you”
Part one of her double single project entitled Summer Is Sweet With You, Scottish newcomer Alex Amor has shared her new single “dare you”.
In many ways, Amor’s music feels like a meeting of worlds. With a creative ear that knows no bounds, her adoration for music developed as a young choir singer, inspired by the angelic sound as much as she was also captivated by the lyricism and rhythm of rap.
Since relocating to London, the transitionary period of her first year in the capital informed her debut EP, Love Language, which documented universal themes of progressing relationships, the complexities of human relations, restless youth, and loss and heartache.
Now, Alex offers a slice of euphoric indie-pop whilst maintaining her usual intimacy on “dare you”.
Less introspective than her previous offerings, Amor fantasies about a modern romance as she sings “Maybe I’ll be the map to your dreams / a reason to run, just take what you need / and let’s get out of here / we could face and erase all our fears”.
Co-written and produced by main collaborator Karma Kid (Bakar, Shygirl) as well as Simon Byrt (Babeheaven), “dare you” yields a dazzling, forward-thinking soundscape. With plenty of room for exploration, the initial ambience sonically evolves in the track’s latter half, with a distorted vocoder sequence channelling Amor’s dreamlike mindset.
Speaking on the new track and Summer Is Sweet With You project, Amor shares, ““dare you” is about taking risks while the sun is still high in the sky. Along with a coming single, it forms my project Summer is Sweet with You, which is all about potentials and possibilities. Making a bet on someone, with the hopes that it'll pay off in the long run. Because life is too short to always play it safe.”
