Undoubtedly one of the finest new bands to emerge from the back-end of 2013, Leeds-based quartet Adult Jazz return with another intelligent and gripping piece of music in “Spook”. The track will feature on the band’s debut album, Gist Is, out this summer.
Like much of Adult Jazz’s portfolio to date, small as it is, “Spook” is a completely transitionary, immersive cut, dressed from the offset with pretty piano touches before tumbling in and out of brass-backed melodies and spikey guitar clatters. With fickle pace and textures sprawling over 9 minutes, “Spook” is actually four songs for the price of one. Let us be gluttonous.
Gist Is will be released on 4 August via Spare Thought.
