A Grave With No Name stuns with lo-fi gem "House"
A Grave With No Name is sharing "House", the latest preview of upcoming LP Wooden Mask, on Best Fit.
The song follows "Wedding Dress" in teasing the Alexander Shields' fifth record as A Grave With No Name.
There's a touch of Elliott Smith and/or Alex G on the track, which sees Shields blur lo-fi textures with warm and welcoming melodies. It's comforting, in its strange little way, although often chilling too, with Shields proving once again that he's a master of subtlety, upending worlds and U-turning on emotions without you even realising. Speaking about the song, Shields says it "sings of the brittle frailty of domestic life, enshrined within the natural order."
“My previous albums have been preoccupied with loss," Shields continues. "Wooden Mask is a meditation on renewal, using ritual and ceremony as a means to explore this theme.”
Wooden Mask is released 12 August via Forged Artifacts. It follows last year's Feathers Wet, Under The Moon.
Shields is set to play a headline date at London's Servant Jazz Quarters on 18 August.
