Watch: Marker Starling - "Uphill Battle" [Premiere]
Marker Starling, formerly known as Mantler, and real name Chris A. Cummings, is unveiling his new visuals for latest track "Uphill Battle" on Best Fit.
Taken from upcoming record Rosy Maze, the Toronto cult hero straps in Wurlitzers and jazzy drums for this bittersweet teaser.
It's a slick cut from the bygone days of golden soul; fifty years ago, before your Britneys and your Chers, Cummings would've had centre stage as Las Vegas' top venues. This is classy, but it's not style over substance - there's a real gut-punch one-two here that'll leave you reeling. It's bafflingly great, utterly timeless... it feels like a long-lost friend returning from out of nowhere.
Described as a "sanguine dream of McCartney pop, Brazilian bossa nova, 1960s movie soundtrack sparkle and stoned Beach Boys baroque melodies", Cummings' debut as Marker Starling is set to be a riveting affair.
Rosy Maze will be released 30 March by Tin Angel. To celebrate, Cummings & Co. will be playing London's Shacklewell Arms on 15 April.
