Tycho, has been most commonly known as the brainchild of Scott Hansen, but as songs from upcoming LP Awake like ”Spectre” surface, it’s clear the project has had a change in focus.
“Spectre” sits somewhere in the all-encompassing synths á la Washed Out, but is given a new, driving textural dimension by its rhythm section in a fashion not dissimilar to bands like Mutemath. Essentially, Hansen can now deliver that same floating on water feeling from the last record with a bit of oomph.
Inspired by the addition of live bass and guitars on the tour of his last LP Dive, the sophomore promises to reflect a rejuvenated project; Hansen himself calls the release “the first true Tycho release”.
Tycho plays The Oval Space, London on March 26. Awake is available 17 March via Ghostly International.
