Tungz are the life of the party on vibrant disco-funk track "What For?"
Bristol-based Tungz present "What For?", a relatable, funk-tinged disco gem that opens their new EP Why Do Anything?.
Following previous outings "Somebody To Get Shy With" (featuring Bad Sounds), "Go Out" and "Can’t We Just Be Friends Again", "What For?" is Tungz's most party-ready release yet.
Built on a tropical beat and a funky bass line, "What For?" opens with an anthemic, disco-tinged chant, "Do it or don't do it / Do it or don't do it" before plunging into a psych-pop whirlpool with a vocal delivery that is alike to the more recent psych-pop gems from Tame Impala.
The woozy synths elevate the funky tones of the track, weaving through the tropical percussion and disco elements of the song as the lyrics journey through the act of letting your thoughts be what they are without overthinking it.
Tungz explain, "This song is about letting your thoughts do their thing without worrying about it. The lyrics and melody came all at once one late night. The best way to hear your subconscious. We spent a lot of time on the drum production and rhythms to take it to our dance roots as a live band. We always knew this would be the opening track to the EP. Play it at all your parties."
