The Mary Onettes return with the suitably dreamy "Juna", a one-off single for the Cascine label.
It's been over two years since Swedish dream pop band The Mary Onettes released their Portico album but they're back today - with a little help from our faves Cascine and Oxford notebooks - with a one-off single, "Juna".
Released as part of a campaign for Oxford Europe notebooks featuring a cool dancing robot, "Juna" was produced by the legendary Dan Lissvik (Studio, Service, etc) and finds the Swedish quartet on vintage form.
From the blissful washes of synths which open the track, through Philip Ekström's always yearning vocal to the gentle acoustic strums which break through the hazy electronics there's that familiar feeling of hope and loss pitted against each other. As Ekström sings "I wish I had a plan to follow now / I wish I had a way to begin / this is my heart / this is my heart / this is my heart" we're down in the dumps with him, but always looking up.
