The Coathangers announce new EP Parasite, unveil the ferocious "Captain's Dead"
Atlanta punk three-piece The Coathangers are back today with a new track, and an EP to follow in June.
"Captain's Dead" is the first track to be taken from the Parasite EP and it's an angry blast at the current political climate...although its inspiration partly comes from a personal experience endured by guitarist anfd vocalist Julia Kugel.
The track snarls from the off, the lyrics spat out over simple drums and guitars in the verses before exploding with a spiky blast and wonky organ in the sing-song chorus. It's a brilliant blast of punk fun, tempered with a serious message.
Kugel explains "sometimes people that you trust fail you miserably by falling victim to their own ego. They start believing their own hype, fancy themselves a leader, but they lead nothing. It's based on a personal experience, but this track has taken on a larger meaning given our current political weather. It's feeling stormy - the ships made out of shit will sink themselves."
