Denmark's Soleima wants us to join her in avoiding being "Wasted" this summer
Ever since her breakout track "My Boi" surfaced in 2015 we've been keeping a close eye on Danish singer Soleima. Her latest single is proof that she remains one to watch.
Following on from the brilliant "Once Was", the Copenhagen-based Soleima furthers her off-kilter pop music - which is infused with hip hop beats and inflections - with the woozy "Wasted".
Soleima explains that "the term 'wasted' gets double sided in this song. The obvious meaning is of course being drunk/high and therefore unable to process thoughts and logic. The other way to look at it, is that some people, like myself, are able to lead a certain kind of life whereas many don’t have the same possibilities as me - and sometimes that opportunity can be wasted."
The song has pitch-bent synths, R&B rhythms and electronic horns all lurching around while Soleima's sweet and high vocals dominate in the chorus, sounding less treated than on some of her previous tracks and acting as a summer breeze floating in to a dark, stifling and disorienting club.
An EP will follow at some point this year but in the meantime you can listen to "Wasted" below.
