Saltwater Sun impress on punchy debut effort "Habit On My Mind"
The second band to emerge on new London-based label Hand In Hive, Saltwater Sun, spring into action with "Habit On My Mind". Fans of Alvvays and Wye Oak, step right this way.
We all know bands - yes, bands with the staple guitar/drums/bass/vocals set-up - are lacking in numbers these days. Decent ones anyway. It's thus a treat to hear some fresh, no-bones pop-rock landing in our inbox today.
"Habit On My Mind" cuts straight to the chase with cocksure guitars and a steady drum pelt, but the listener can't be fooled with something as simple. Enviably confident, husky female vocals enter the fold at the verse, with rhythms popping out of sockets and meandering around beautifully-muted 80s guitar, much like Wye Oak's recent creations. The chorus is a near-instant explosive earworm ("lay it on the line /[...] habit on my mind as you're creeping up my spine") that buries deep into the skull and rattles around.
It's more than a little impressive for a first single.
