Rina Sawayama reveals slick R&B jam "Where U Are"
London's Rina Sawayama has revealed the glossy R&B of latest single "Where U Are".
Cambridge politics graduate Sawayama fuses contemporary R&B sleekness with some '70s soul vibes, creating something shimmering and fluid that morphs into a new type of gold with every beat. Her voice is clearly phenomenal, but don't let that distract you from the quality of the production. The Ratatat-y guitars at the end are particularly nice.
Speaking about the track, Sawayama says: "Online you can present your best edited self, and bypass lots of the messiness and awkwardness that comes with real human interactions. Your overheating phone substitutes human warmth. Weirdest of all - you’re together, but also very alone."
