Don Giovanni-signed Priests have always made politically charged music, with frontwoman Katie Alice Greer giving a brief American history lesson on “(USA) Incantations” from Tape Two last year. Now, she’s making it clear where her political leanings lie on new track, “Right Wing”.
“Everything’s so right wing”, Greer drawls languidly. The statement starts off as an acceptance at the state of the world, expressing it in a reasoned tone. But as the song progresses, her anger builds. She starts snarling at the end of each line, screaming, “I’m not trying to be anything”, over murky guitars that progressively get louder in accordance with her energy.
It’s a continuation from the Washington DC punk group’s previous material and an indication of what we can expect from their new record Bodies and Control and Money and Power which comes out on 3 June via Don Giovanni/Sister Polygon Records.
