Pieces of Juno enlists Anana for the dark release of "Black Acres"
With her album due at the end of this month, Pieces of Juno has unveiled another track from her long-awaited debut.
"Black Acres", featuring fellow singer and producer Anana, is a cover of a song originally performed by torch-song noir act Elysian Fields. This interpretation loses none of the drama and ramps up the desire and danger.
Sparse and clattering production mixes with tense stabs of strings as Juno Jensen and Anana trade off sultry verses. Drops of piano notes only serve to increase the atmosphere of foreboding. As lyrics touch on "la petite mort", there's a feeling of craving that can't be shaken, a need to be taken and to feel something no matter the consquences. It's a complete thrill.
