Niki & The Dove return with brilliant new slow jam "Sushi King"
Following last year's criminally-ignored Everybody's Heart Is Broken Now, Swedish duo Niki & the Dove are back with a brand new track.
It's too early to tell if "Sushi King" is a signal that a new album is on the way or not, but Malin Dahlström and Gustaf Karlöf have proved yet again that there are few better than the Swedes at writing modern pop songs.
The song is similar in tone to Everybody's Heart Is Broken Now; it's very much a post-club track but rather than looking back to the '70s and '80s like the album did, this chillout is 21st century through-and-through. Synths parp and burble all over the place, the beat is slow jam paced and Dahlström's vocals are pitch-bent, treated and shimmering throughout. There's a glorious chanted chrous and bridge, calling out an ex who keeps creepin' back on to the scene, and it's also possibly the only pop song to namecheck Alan Turing.
Hopefully we'll hear more from Niki & The Dove very soon, but for now this is a very welcome return.
