With no back-catalogue, a scarcity of likes on Facebook and a biography merely consisting simply of ’JR JL’ – the initials of the two band members, Justin Renaud and Jordan Lempe – Sunboy are fresher than a Colgate milkshake.
Introducing themselves with ‘Anxious People’, a psychedelic indie treat that’s starting to receive a fair bit of attention. The track begins with a rather standard The xx-inspired opening before shuddering synths, and vocals which cherry-pick the best bits of MGMT and Empire of the Sun take the lead, ending on a slick-as guitar solo. The lyric, ‘convincible invincible’ sums these guys up perfectly; they’re going to be nigh on unstoppable.
