The last we heard from moody pop twosome San Zhi was in 2012 with their massively promising debut EP Ice Light. The titular track a defiantly brilliant statement of intent, coupled with impressive cover versions of the Robin S dancefloor staple “Show Me Love” alongsdie Lauryn Hill’s cry-athon “The Ex Factor” - the EP saw many eyebrows raised for what was to follow.
Having moved from London to Reims in the northern climbs of France, the duo – Peter Howarth-Brown and Suraya – today release the first glimpse of what they’ve been working on with producer Guillaume Briere – he of French disco existentialistsThe Shoes.
A glorious return, “Static Hearts” possesses a vocal melody deeply rooted in pop classicism but, to its merit, doesn’t rush to get to its buoyant climax. Building beautifully from the outset, what results is a breezy and undeniably charming four and a half minutes. A welcome return.
