Listen: Rökkurró – “Killing Time” [Premiere]
After a 3 year absence Icelandic pop ensemble Rökkurró return with two new band members and brand new track “Killing Time.”
Bearing all the beautiful trademarks of their previous album, Í Annan Heim, whilst making subtle strides forwards, “Killing Time” is a warm, wonderfully textured number that finds stuttering rhythms judder underneath swelling instrumentals while the vocal’s unshakable sense of longing will lingers well after the song has finished.
It makes moves into more electronic territory as the long trusted cello is replaced by a synthesiser and most notably of all, this is the band’s first song in English. “We wanted to try it out. When I was living in Japan, I was basically only speaking English and Japanese” explains vocalist Hildur Stefánsdóttir. “I think it’s challenging and has a different feel to it – compared to what we’ve done before. Rest assured, we will do stuff in Icelandic again. We are really excited to finally be releasing new music.”
If everything to come is as good as this then we’ve every reason to be excited too.
“Killing Time” is out now. A new record is expected early next year.
