Listen: Raleigh Ritchie – A Moor
We haven’t the foggiest where in Britain newcomer Raleigh Ritchie is operating out of, or what his real name is so we’ll cut straight to the chase: ‘A Moor’ is one of the finest first drops you’ll hear this month.
Despite being stuffed with rosy pitch-shifted vocal samples, melted synth whirls and softly brushed percussion, ‘A Moor’ transcends your average contemporary nod to 90s vintage RnB. That’s partly due to our mystery man’s warm and gentle flow although it’s the lyrical content that affords Ritchie’s debut the ambience of a tender lovenote, all he wants to do is ditch the seedy bright lights and escape with his soulmate to a place “where the grass grows/away from the stubborn city assholes”.
We’re sure there’ll be new suitors queued up around the block if he can stay this far ahead of the game.
