“Garden Disco” is the label Chicago’s Gilligan Moss affords his resplendent debut cut, ‘Hemlock’. We can kind of see where the mysterious emerging producer is coming from.
Swirling foreign language samples are clipped, snipped and pasted across spare, ebbing beats and looping pianos, lending the track an organic, lived-in ambience crucially lacking with so much heavily plucked and sequenced modern electro.
Although the tranquility of this seven-minute long frolic is slightly jarred by some whirring synth waves and dreamily burbled male vocals at the climax, we’re still feeling like VIP’s at the weirdest, most wonderful garden party on the planet.
