The endless influx of scarily talented female-fronted projects shows little sign of letting-up as electro-infused soulstress Celeste (Waite) emerges with a beautifully soulful debut effort.
The California-born, London-based 19 year old merges the current thirst for sparse, synth-based electronic production - thanks to her work with fellow Capital City-dweller Tev’n - with a powerfully emotive voice, filled with yearning that nods back to Bond theme-esque work of legendary crooners from years gone by.
“Is your fruit still forbidden? / Boy you’re testing my religion” Waite calls with dangerously seductive subtext before careful vocal manipulation and the continuing appearance of clipped, arcade game FX pulls the track up towards the likes of the pace-setting Banks.
Thanks to Celeste, seductive soul has a new lease of life and can well and truly be “Born Again” for 2014 and beyond; taken from her forthcoming EP, stream this impressive debut below.
