Listen: Azekel – A Song To An Unborn Child
Smooth R&B can sometimes seem like an area reserved for, or certainly dominated by, our friends across the pond, many of whom have catapulted the sound into the mainstream. However, East London’s Azekel has emerged with something that doffs a hat to these fore-runners of the genre; a track that could even sit alongside.
‘A Song To An Unborn Child’ is honest, stripped-back and entirely listenable. Earnest lyrics hold nothing back, the consistent beat adds complete assurance before a falsetto hook of a chorus completely takes over and gently tugs at heartstrings, with the tracks subject matter in mind. Confident and sure of itself, it is a wholly exciting prospect for 2013 UK R&B – keep your eyes on Azekel.
