Lazy Day is a solo side-project of Tilly Scantlebury, also known as one quarter of the London/Brighton-based alt-rockers, Hella Better Dancer. As Lazy Day, Scantlebury instantly evokes a lush dream-pop shadowland with her aptly-titled, pleasingly direct “With My Mind”.
Opening with rhythmic guitar pings and sturdy drum thudding, the track tilts a loosely nostalgic nod toward the hazy shoegaze textures of the late 80s and early 90s. Scantlebury’s smoky, tempered vocals hover in the sonic spaces just above the melody, inviting the listener closer. The introduction of overlapping vocals part way through the song heightens its immersive, melodic churn. Hypnotic and heady, this track is a gem.
“With My Mind” was written, recorded and mixed by Scantlebury and mastered by Felix Davis at Metropolis. Keep an eager ear out for upcoming releases by checking in with the project on Facebook and Twitter.
