Kidsmoke shine bright while tackling a tough topic on new track "The Bluest You"
Welsh four-piece Kidsmoke are back with their hazy and euphoric new single "The Bluest You", which sees them take a "fly on the wall" approach to observing depression and its affects on people around them.
"The Bluest You" is the group's first single of 2020, and arrives after last year's "She Takes You Under".
Kidsmoke commence their new track with shoegaze guitar tones and layers of lo-fi instrumentals to merge the melodies with the soothing vocals seamlessly. While the melodies are hazy at times, the intricate details of the instrumentals enhance the sensitive topic of depression, as Kidsmoke observe what depression does to a household through their lyrics.
The harmonies and breezy, summer-fuelled melodies contrast with the sensitive topic of observing someone suffering with mental health issues, and at times the two merge faultlessly as the instrumentals engulf the track, drowning out the reality.
The band say of their new single, "This song is a live favourite of ours. It is a fly on the wall look into a household where one person’s depression is affecting everyone else who lives there. The song doesn’t address the feelings of the person suffering with depression, it is a sort of commentary from the viewpoint of the rest of the family."
