Tiny town Sjura, Sweden native, Karin Park casts her dark, icy gaze toward the grimy dance floor on her new single, “Shine.”
Having been a quiet past six months for Park, wrapping 2012’s Highwire Poetry tour last summer, “Shine” is an abrupt single drop, seemingly out of nowhere. Here, Park dials back the aggression and energy she injected into Highwire Poetry, as well as virtually all of the Bjork-like vocal affectation from previous outings.
“Shine”s impressive restraint, particularly coming out of the chorus, where Park could easily blow the tune open, assures that it’s tailor-made for those latest of late night hours after even the dance club lights are out. “Shine” soundtracks those stumbling, bleary moments where you worry that maybe you’ve cranked your party-boy dial a bit too high tonight, as she ensures you: “you can be broke as you want, you can be drunk as you like…I’ll never let you out of sight”. Karin’s cool with that.
With but a lone April date in Heidelberg, Germany currently on the docket, we can only hope “Shine” is a teaser for an album and tour announcement in the near future. The single will be released via iTunes and Beatport on 24 February through State Of The Eye Recordings.
