"Kai's Song" sees Overcoats maintain their pensive electronic ambience
New York outfit Overcoats have a knack for creating deliciously sensual ambient electronic-indie, and new single "Kai’s Song" is nothing but their best.
The track follows a journey into womanhood, with vocal harmonies provided by Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell that weave between energetic and soothing. The duo combine electronic beats with pensive melodies, the tune taking influences from all corners of music, with elements of folk and jazz audible in their track.
"Kai’s Song" is layered, tightly produced, and neatly expressed through stapled emotion and electronics. The subtle coalescence of minimalistic instrumental and silken, poignant lyrics grippingly evinces two friends knocking at the door of womanhood.
Overcoats play The Great Escape Festival in Brighton 18-20 May, Dot to Dot Festival 26-28 May, and a date at London’s St Pancras Church on 24 May.
