Hannah Jane Lewis packs dreamy rom-com clichés into the hopelessly romantic "Love Letters"
A lot of the time it’s not like the movies, but on new single “Love Letters” rising pop star Hannah Jane Lewis reminds you that it could be.
Like Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” the track was initially inspired by a meme. Hannah Jane Lewis had seen a post saying “if Noah can write Ali a letter every day for a year, then he can text you back.” Derived from the absolute classic of all romantic movies, The Notebook, it was unlike most memes, which only produce a knowing smile. This one stuck with the singer/songwriter.
Running through the airport, holding a boombox outside your house, waking up to 12 dozen roses and being serenaded by your boo all make the cut as Lewis lists some of her favourite movie moments. But as the title of the track suggests, the clincher is a year of daily love letters, just like Noah.
The track is dedicated “to a friend who needed a little reminder that she deserves the best.” Lewis stresses that “we ALL deserve coffee in the morning, a random call just to say love you, flowers on the doorstep and ice cream at 3am. We deserve someone who is honest, and someone who is certain and to be made to feel special.”
This sugary anthem sees Lewis add to her growing catalogue of sharp-witted, empowering pop tracks from the sass of “Not Yours, Never Was” and "Raincheck" to summer-ready bubbler “Lemonade”.
