Great Ytene return from the brink with "Wanness"
Losing an entire album's worth of material "to a technological worm hole" seems like the kind of thing that can really question a groups commitment to their cause, but for Great Ytene it was the spark for the reinvention that they needed.
It's been over two years since Great Ytene released their self-titled debut. From the searing psychedelia that first brought the band to prominence, their new material is a thrilling freefall through post-punk packing a punch that's sure to leave you reeling.
Dark, driving, and flooded with distortion, "Wanness" rages with a ceaseless momentum primed and raring on the edge of exhilaration. Scuzzed up refrains expand and evolve, building through extended breakdowns with an energy that's nothing short of tumultuous.
"It's a track immersing itself in times past and present of unhappiness & fatigue," Leon Diaper explains, "an underlining theme I seem to carry when writing lyrics for our tracks. But the track is pretty upbeat and pumping in sound and one of our favorites to play live."
Great Ytene release their second album in February, and celebrate with a release show at London's Lexington. Details of the group's upcoming dates can be found below.
