Finnish rapper View aims high on thundering new track "Trippin' Sober"
Helsinki-based rapper View has unveiled "Trippin' Sober", a thumping new single about his creative process.
"Trippin' Sober" sees View lay out guttural flows above floor-filling beats - it's an energised cut rife with heart-pounding percussion and bass built to shatter bone. Horns blare, drops plummet, and synths clang; View's shot out a tune that needs to be played loud.
23-year-old View (née Juuso Ruohonen) cites Grime mavericks such as Wiley and Stormzy, and electronic experimenters such as Massive Attack and James Blake, as influences.
"This song isn't a statement against drugs," Ruohonen explains. "I don't really care what people take and how much they take but it isn't that cool that to get to a creative place you need to first mess your head up and then make a song about how messed up you are. The leading thought in this song is that working in studio is for us what many others try to achieve by intoxicants. When we're making music, our line of thought is confusing enough in itself. For us it's more like after a day in the studio we go out to have a beer to feel a bit more stable again."
