Listen: FEMME - "Killer" (Adamski ft. Seal cover) [Premiere]
London-based pop queen FEMME has travelled through time and space in her Covers EP: a musical journey through pop that culminates with a 90s cover. After delivering Madonna’s classic “Vogue” for her extract from the 80s, she now dissects Adamski and Seal’s own work, “Killer”.
The track was originally written and produced by Adamski and performed by Seal, who later re-recorded the track for his debut album. It gained popularity in both UK and US charts, and was a perfect blend between Adamski’s electronic acid house leanings and Seal’s soulful voice. FEMME maintains the bass-centred vibe of the original track, with the distinctive bassline adorned by a flurry of cowbells, percussion and a multitude of feather-weight synths.
FEMME’s own Bullet Girls pepper the choruses (or is it Bettinson playing off her own voice?) with playful and ethereal utterances. Bettinson’s vocals are modified, contorted and chopped throughout the track, and they’ve never sounded as bold and clear as they do in this pitch perfect cover.
