Watch: Emilie Nicolas – “Grown Up”
The Nordic brilliance continues as one of our favourite discoveries from this year’s by:Larm, Emilie Nicolas, unveils beautifully sentimental visuals for her beguiling new single.
The Oslo native appeared last year with “Nobody Knows”, a cascading, floating electro-pop debut, and her cover of DumDum Boys’ “Pstereo” that followed has enjoyed over a million streams on Spotify. Both efforts incorporate catching choruses and dance-floor beats to join the likes MØ and Tove Lo.
This latest effort proves why Nicolas deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as these regional peers that are cementing themselves as household names, while simultaneously adding a new-found depth: a sparse, warm synth line accompanies her rich vocal and eerie background FX adds to the track’s gentle melancholy, whilst growing to a stunning climax.
Lo-fi home video footage emphasises the touching message in this thoroughly captivating track. Watch the video for “Grown Up” above.
Emilie Nicolas comes to the UK this May to play Brighton’s The Great Escape.
