Belgium's Tsar B reveals experimental R&B debut "Escalate"
Belgium's Tsar B has shared her menacing first cut, "Escalate".
The track, produced by Tsar B and Oliver Symons, recalls TALA's fusion of traditional Middle Eastern sounds with hypnotic electronics. Tsar B heads into a much darker, more unstable place however, with beats perched precariously among thumping bass notes, and rubberband vocals snapping through the panoply of electro sounds.
Speaking to The FADER about the song, Tsar B says: "A whole spectrum of colours appears when I listen to music. If I could place my music somewhere in there, it would approach the darker side. It’s a bit like the colour of what I think a space odyssey would look like. 'Escalate' is about the lack of wisdom or the lack of sense certain people have... but I do feel powerful to change them do believe there’s a way to hit them in their faces and make them a little bit better.”
