Bad Honey March 2019

Despite its title, Bad Honey are stronger than ever on summery new track "Weak When You're Near"

After a string of gorgeous releases last year, including the enchanting "Motions", the South London duo return in 2019 with another sumptuous soul offering.

On "Weak When You're Near", Bad Honey depict the magic and confusion of a new found love with wonderful clarity. The song sees them take generic images of love and romance and turn them completely on their head, toeing the line between romanticism and reality in a way that reflects the muddled emotions that come hand-in-hand with the lust.

The most intriguing feature of the track is the way the feathery melodies frequently tail off at the end of the line, fluctuating or melting into the next line in a surprising fashion that perfectly compliments the whirlwind of emotions that lace through the lyrics.

Yet, in the face of all this confusion, the song is ultimately aimed at finding strength when going through the not-so-pretty elements of being in a relationship as the pair explain, "Although the word weak may generally have a negative meaning, in this song we wanted to use it to portray a feeling when you are away from someone, how things can seem complicated, how thoughts and fears can go around in your head, and maybe appear worse that they are."

The pair also explain how acceptance plays an important part in the track's message, "In the lyrics of this song we were thinking of how you feel sometimes of the early stages in a relationship. all these thoughts go through your head when maybe you haven’t spoken about or processed your feelings yet. However when you are in the presence of that person, those things seem to disappear. We also want to portray how it is good to allow people to have faults and downfalls sometimes as everybody does, and often being in the presence of someone is enough to remind you of that."

"Weak When You're Near" is out everywhere on 6 March.
