Astrid S returns with her biggest pop moment yet on the majestic "Breathe"
Following last year's great self-titled EP, Norway's Astrid S is back with a brand new single, and it might be her best yet.
The singer has developed her music away from the dark R&B of "2am" and "Hyde", to a more pure pop sound as found on "Paperthin" and "Hurts So Good" - and "Breathe" is the fantastic end product of this progression.
The verses strut along with a confidence we've not heard from Astrid S so far; the Norwegian's voice is smart and sassy, matching the snapping rhythm and snaking bass, and when the chorus hits her voice soars, released - an inverse to the theme of the song. As she sings "if I could just inhale some chill / it's like I'm living out in space / how am I still here?" Astrid captures that rush of a relationship where there's such a level of obsession you forget to do the basics, when you're entire world is one person. "Breathe" marks the start of something special, and Astrid S is yet another Norwegian artist set for a massive 2017.
