Listen: Arthur Beatrice – “Late”
Art-electro hype-magnets Arthur Beatrice unveil “Late”, a cut from upcoming album, Working Out, that’s brimming with confidence and good vibes.
Featuring the infectious piano-bass groove scattered throughout last year’s EP Carter, it’s a luscious concoction that folds Ella Girardot’s tender vocals into a swirl of atmospheric percussion. The xx comparisons are definitely fair; Ella’s vocals and Hamish Barnes’ bass and backing vocals are hugely reminiscent of the classic Romy and Oliver combo.
But that’s certainly no bad thing. In fact, it’s incredibly promising stuff for their upcoming debut. It’s certainly been a long time coming, with them achieving the indie milestone of The Guardian’s Band of the Day in 2011, but three years later having not yet released their first album. It doesn’t matter, though; it may be “Late”, but it’s still shaping up to be pretty damn great.
