We’ve made no secret of our love for Samaris. The gorgeous, glacial textures of their haunting self-titled “debut” saw them net a place amongst our favourite albums of last year, and we’ve since caught up with them for a session performance of new track “Hafið” around their stand-out performance at last year’s Iceland Airwaves.

So the news of their follow up, Silkidrangar (translates as “silk cliffs”), was a double dose of music to our ears. After a brief hiatus, whilst clarinettist Áslaug embarked on a round the world trip, the three-piece have returned with another record of haunting atmospherics, stunning beauty and delicate electronica. Taking lyrical cues from 19th century Icelandic poetry, the album combines history and modernity in its pulsing, progressive spirit - and is an impeccably executed manifestation of the potential they’ve promised since their formation in 2011. It will be released on May 5, via One Little Indian, and the band will stop at The Great Escape and London’s Birthdays as part of their European tour in May.
