Track By Track: Brandon Can't Dance on Graveyard of Good Times

16 January 2017, 10:00

Philadelphian songwriter Brandon Ayres, aka Brandon Can't Dance, has just released his latest album Graveyard of Good Times.

Closely linked to the likes of Alex G and a touring buddy of LVL UP, Ayres has been self-releasing records for a good while now, but Graveyard of Good Times could be the one which finally leads to biigger and better things.

Below, you can stream the new record and be guided through it via Ayres' track by track thoughts.

The World Is Broken

I wrote this about a whiny teenager who doesn't quite understand anything yet, but thinks he can go out and live on his own and avoid everyone without really seeing the full picture.

Freak of the Freaks

This is about my first crush who was very much a mid 2000s scene girl style wise, and I was very much into my dead grandfather's clothes at the time as sort of a coping mechanism, but also loved his wardrobe. I ended up looking like the freak to her and her friends. I tried to be someone personality wise I wasn't to get her to like me. I was also like 15 lol

Don't You Want To

This is about depressive moods swings during a time when you're having doubts about a relationship which is just a cluster of crap in your head and I tried to bring that to the music as well.

Me Inside Here

This is literally lyrics from a few separate things I had written that meshed well together. It ends up being a train of thought song.

Obligatory Star Surfing Song

"Obligatory Star Surfing Song" is me ripping off The Smashing Pumpkins in my own way basically.

Believe In Fear

This was on an album I called Brandon that I never put online and made about 25 copies for friends. The end is my favourite. The rest of the song is holding on for dear life trying to stay together.

Graveyard of Good Times is out now via Lucky Number Records.
