Ariana Grande thinks therapy should be "mandatory" in contracts with record labels
Ariana Grande recently sat down with Penn Badgley – co star of her new video for "the boy is mine" – for his Podcrushed Podcast.
Reflecting on being thrust into the spotlight at a young age with not many coping mechanisms offered to help her adjust, Ariana Grande said she believes that therapy should be mandatory for new/young artists.
"I was actually talking about this with Max (Martin) because I think that in my contract as a Republic Records artist I want to see them add, moving forward - I need to call Monty Lipton about this, ‘Monty I have an idea’ - but I think it should be provided that if you're going to be doing this on this scale and your life is going to turn into something... if it goes well and if you get to do it, you get to be on the stage at the Grammys and your dreams are coming true. There should be an element that is mandatory of therapy, of a professional person to unpack what this experience of your life changing so drastically does to you at a young age, at any age."
Ariana Grande recently released her seventh studio album, eternal sunshine. Following its release, she spoke to Zane Lowe about her emotions whilst making it, revealing that she had some doubts about whether she was in the right headspace to make music.
"For so long, I think I was hiding from it – hiding from my success or from what comes with it – and it was really impacting my ability to be able to love what I do for a long time," she explained. "It was really making me resentful, I think, for a little bit of time and I don't feel that anymore. I feel like I'm able to let go of that and enjoy it and I feel really proud and grateful for that."
