Spotify launches multi-device home audio service
-
Digital music service, Spotify have unveiled plans to launch a new home audio experience, enabling users to sync their accounts with compatible speakers and control music across multiple devices.
Spotify Connect will be available to Premium users, and will see speakers and hifis by manufacturers including Bang & Olufsen, Phillips and Yamaha stream music controlled by the mobile app.
“Today, listening to music at home can be a frustrating experience ” explains Sten Garmark, Spotify’s VP of product management. “Dropouts, below-par audio quality, signal range and phone restrictions, battery drainage, it’s basically a hassle.”
The service aims to resolve this by offering “effortless control of your music across your phone, tablet and now speakers with millions of songs built right in”. It also ensures that incoming calls, loss of signal or watching a video won’t affect listening.
Spotify Connect will be launched to Premium subscribers using iPhone, iPad and home audio systems later this year, with other platforms to follow.
