Watch: Yumi And The Weather – Must I Wait [Best Fit Premiere]
Amongst the sea of impressive female vocalist talent washing over the internet today, Brighton’s Ruby Taylor aka Yumi And The Weather seems to catch the light bouncing off the influx of waves just exactly right. With a background steeped in reggae and soul, there’s no room for distortion or reverb on Yumi’s infectious guitar strums. Twinkling chords make your heart race, as hints of a beach filled existence in the form of echoing, sultry words told by lips pressed up against a microphone grab you by the waist. Finally, sealing the deal, synthesized harmonies act as the backdrop for this heartbreaking realization lasting just under four minutes.
Yumi And The Weather’s accompanying video for ‘Must I Wait’ does a fantastic job of bringing everything you already knew deep down to be true, into focus. Memories will always outshine actuality, and often it’s those fictitious re-imaginations that haunt us the most. We all have a breaking point. How long must we wait?
