The opening few bars of ‘Endless Town’, the debut release from Philadelphia’s Sweet Lights, certainly bears some resemblance to former band mates Kurt Vile and War On Drugs’ driving alt-pop, but within seconds shades of George Harrison melodies and Daniel Johnston lyrical oddities soon wash away any preconception that Shai Halperin is riding on the coat tails of his former band mates.
Former guitarist with The Capitol Years (which also featured Kurt Vile and Adam Granduciel of War On Drugs in the lineup), Halperin is set to release his debut full-length – a self-titled affair – via Highline Records on April 30. Catch him live at the following UK dates:
May
19 – London, Union Chapel (daytime show)
22 – London, The Lexington
August
31 – End Of The Road Festival
Sweet Lights is released on April 30. ‘Endless Town’ is available now as a 7″ clear vinyl.
