Deaths, the solo project of Czech musician Igor Bruso whose era/genre-blurring spin on modern electro-pop manifested online last week, delivers this self-directed video for debut cut ‘Karaoke Blues’.
Aided on production by Melis of Brighton duo and Best Fit faves IYES, ‘Karaoke Blues’ absorbs the best elements of Scandi-pop (shimmery synth splashes, echoing percussion) and the daftest bits of M83′s Saturday s= Youth (aka bubblegum guitar riffs and fizzy bass slaps).
The resulting compound feels altogether more defined than your average glam-revivalist’s work. The sub-titled narrative follows two thieves making their final heist in the hope of finding a ‘magic stone of immortality’. It’s unashamedly tongue-in-cheek but nonetheless executed with a rich cinematic flair. We won’t spoil the ending for you.
