Peggy Sue – Fools Rush In [Best Fit Premiere]
Peggy Sue have never seemed the type of band to get complacent. After releasing their debut in 2010, they brought out another – and may we add quite sublime – record in little over a year later in the shape and form of 2011′s Acrobats.
Fast-forward nine months or so and here we are. You’d be pretty foolish to think they’ve been resting on their laurels, right? Right you are, as the band have been hard at work on a new album, somehow managing to fit in recording a collection of covers along the way too.
Peggy Sue play the Songs of Scorpio Rising was inspired by the band’s performance during the spring of last year at a small Hackney cinema, where they provided a live soundtrack for Kenneth Anger’s 1963 experimental film ‘Scorpio Rising’ (hence the name). Afterwards they decided to compile 12 new arrangements of these original compositions, which will finally see a release next month.
Rather prolific, but this cover of the 1940s hit is a whole different story altogether. A slow-burning number that’s in no rush, taking its time to a rather emphatic close and set to a backdrop of monochrome clips rummaged from the archives. Pretty fitting given the band’s inspiration then.
Peggy Sue play the Songs of Scorpio Rising is out 23 July on limited-edition handmade CD, available to pre-order here from Monday (18 June).
