Watch: Dent May – Born Too Late [Premiere]
Mississippi’s Dent May released his third album, Warm Blanket, this week and to celebrate, he’s indulging in a day of water sports. Or at least in the video for new single, ‘Born Too Late’, he is.
First aired back in June, ‘Born Too Late’ offered a glimpse into the direction Dent was heading i.e. into the sunset, guitar slung over the shoulder and a stack of Beach Boys records under one arm. Thudding bass grooves tessellate with a timeless piano motif and scattershot synth squirts, but it’s Dent’s BeeGees via Brian Wilson coo which shines above the irrepressibly offbeat melody.
The video, premiering at Best Fit below, is indicative of Dent’s wry, often self-deprecating humour. Be it hopping aboard a jet-ski, or being dragged along by a speedboat; the guy still oozes effortlessly nerdy cool.
