We were first charmed by the tender talent of Rachel Sermanni when she supported one of 2010′s breakout successes, John Grant, at a show on London’s South Bank back in the summer of 2010. Grant was more than vocal about Sermanni’s appeal and had apparently hand-picked her for that particular slot. The Scottish Highlands-born 20 year old singer-songwriter might easily slip under the radar were her songs and voice not so luminous and heart-breaking.
On a sunny sunday afternoon in February, we took the young Scot to a canal-side tunnel in East London for her Best Fit Session. While trains rumbled above, she belted out the sublime ‘Eggshells’.
