Tula, Oklahoma native and ex-schoolteacher JD McPherson creates a truly analogue rock n roll sound and counts Tom Waits and Nick Lowe amongst his fans.
His debut album Signs & Signifiers (kudos to those of you who though of Saussure just then) was recorded on vintage microphones, a 60s Berlant tape machine and serves up a fine slice of songwriting spread across 12 quality tracks. It’s out in May on Rounder Records.
Ahead of his debut UK show last month at Camden, London’s Wheelbarrow, we met up with JD and his band for a quick run through album standout ‘North Side Gal’.
