While the Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) production on their upcoming second album If I Was will draw some welcome attention from newer parts to Watford-born trio The Staves, it’s the development of their sober and precise take on left-field folk that really stands out this year.
Taken from their recent Blood I Bled EP, “Open” is a perfectly concise lyrical and vocal feat that displays the fineries of the three talented sisters in formidable musical terms. We met up with Emily, Jessica and Camilla Staveley-Taylor last month at London’s Keystone Crescent for a session film of the song - performed in a single, flawless take; watch above.
