It must be something in the DNA of Iceland that makes its musical prodigies so apt at cutting a singular and most distinctive path through their chosen art. If Emiliana Torrini’s career as a songwriter and performer in her own right wasn’t enough, she’s also been a go-to collaborator for GusGus as well as working with the likes of Paul Oakenfold and Kylie Minogue.
She returns next month with sixth studio album Tookah, which finds longtime associate Dan Carey returning on production duties. The record is informed heavily by Carey’s input as well as the birth of Torrini’s son.“It’s much more about the exploration of sonics and visual landscaping in order to find my own sound”, says Torrini. ”I am a craftswoman and for me this record has been about Dan and I evolving and going on a sound journey. In the confines of a London church – the stunning St Giles in the Fields - Best Fit met up with Torrini for a transformed version of Tookah track ‘Animal Games’; watch that above.Tookah is released on 9 September via Rough Trade
